The Predelica torrent drops more than 400 vertical metres in under three kilometres, a gradient steep enough that its bed is carved rather than merely worn. It rises beneath Mangart, Slovenia's fifth-highest summit at 2,679 metres, and empties into the Koritnica near Log pod Mangartom. The rock is Dachstein limestone, laid down in shallow Triassic seas and later crumpled upward during the Alpine orogeny. Water has since done the patient work: potholes, plunge pools, and vertical shafts polished to the texture of glass. Log pod Mangartom sits at the western edge of Triglav National Park, established in its modern form in 1981 and covering some 840 square kilometres. The village is small and its history is not gentle.
